What have we been involved with.

The group’s constitution encourages an appreciation of the river, the park, the banks of the river, as well as the surrounding areas.

Listed below are some of the achievements that the group have been associated with. The group applied successfully for funding from a variety of sources. 

7th. May 2010.              Purchase of mulch for use on the flower gardens within the Park.

8th. June 2009.            Printing of the “THE BULLY” book by Tim Mickelburgh funded via the West Marsh councillors funding.

23rd March 2009.        Purchase of medals and ribbons for use on the day of the West Marsh Fun Day as mementoes for the fun race.

27th./29th. Oct. 2008.   Providing further workshops with Mr Pat O’Carroll in wood craft. He happily do more subject to funding.

29th./31st. July 2008.   Providing further workshops with Mr Pat O’Carroll in wood craft.

3rd September 2008.  Paid the cost of spray art for the back panels on the teen shelter, this also provided a workshop in the technique for some of the local children.

2nd. July 2008.            Paid for some modifications to the Duck Island Bridge to prevent access of the vandals who had been going onto the island.

17th. March 2008.      Paid the cost of the services of Mr. Pat O’Carroll for wood carving on the Park and also providing workshops for the local children in wood carving and wood turning.

4th. March 2008.        Purchased a quantity of bulbs for planting in the various flower beds within the Park.

3rd. March 2008.        Purchased six benches for installation in other locations within the park.

Early 2008.                  In Association with the council secured funding for the cost of the current play equipment and the teen shelter. This was installed in time for opening on the day of the West Marsh Fun Day of this year.

                                       Also artistic tiled bench using designs from local schoolchildren depicted as mosaics.

10th. May 2007.          Purchased of Pond Dipping equipment.

6th. March 2007.        Paid the cost of hire for a bouncy castle to use at the 1st. West Marsh Fun Day.

6th. March 2007.        Purchased three benches for installation around the green near the ex Band Stand area.

Various periods.        The group have been involved in a number of litter pick-ups along the banks of the river, in some times being assisted by local businesses and also happily assisted by a number of local children.

At another time.        We have also assisted in doing some tidying up by painting some of the railings and on this time we were pleased to have some help from a group of school children (approx 45).

 The group holds its meetings on the last Wednesday of each month, meetings starting at 6:00 PM. Meetings take place at different locations, namely West Marsh Community Centre and the Bowling Green Pavilion, each month the location is detailed on the notice board on the park, at the various centres and also in the two newsagents (Oglesby’s and Lord Street).
